Roaster Collaboration #84 - Martinborough Coffee Company

Martinborough Coffee Company is an artisan coffee company roasting fine boutique coffee. They are a small team of coffee fanatics roasting with love right in the heart of Martinborough. The initial vision was to roast their own coffee for the Neighbourhood Coffee House, with the goal for Neighbourhood Coffee to bring exceptional, organic coffee to the community (and to anyone who loves a great cup).

Karina started with them almost a decade ago, when they dropped their first roast in a small 1kg roaster. The roaster was located in the Neighbourhood Café, but they quickly realised a bigger roaster was needed in its own space. In 2022 Martinborough Coffee Company was born when Karina, along with her partner, decided to purchase the roastery and change its name.

Handcrafted Sustainable and Ethically Sourced

They source high-quality coffee beans from around the globe and accomplish an excellent roasted coffee that is consistent in flavour. Their approach to roasting is to fully develop all flavours, with the aim being to highlight what makes their coffee unique.

Their Coffee Philosophy Is Simple - Let The Coffee Shine

The team are serious about flavour, quality, and creating a coffee experience that makes your day just a little bit brighter! Martinborough is a small destination town for weekenders and wine lovers, and they are proud to support small businesses in their love for coffee and community.

Martinborough Coffee Company roast with their senses and check every roast by smelling, watching the beans and at the end tasting them. They have a 10kg drum roaster that allows them to bring out the best flavours in every bean, right down to the last detail. And they’re all about those tasting notes that make you pause for a second sip (and maybe a third)!

The business of brewing and consuming coffee is captivating. It has become far too easy in our consumer culture to forget that coffee is a fruit, from a crop that is grown by hard-working farmers. Martinborough Coffee Company believe that, if handled properly at origin, coffee has the potential to be respected and treated like a fine wine. Let The Coffee Shine.

Pinot Noir Barrel-Aged Coffee

Speaking of fine wine, take a look at their Pinot Noir barrel-aged coffee. You may well know that green coffee beans are porous and therefore excel at absorbing nearby aromas. At Martinborough Coffee Company they have been experimenting with ageing green coffee beans in used award-winning Big Sky Pinot Noir barrels.

Big Sky produces organic Wine and believe in the philosophy of making their best wine, not the most. This partnership aims to infuse the chocolatey coffee flavours with subtle hints of poignant fruit notes, creating a coffee packed with flavour.

Bullrush Blend

This month our subscribers are getting the ever popular Bullrush Blend! It’s a juicy blend of Mexican and Peruvian beans, bursting with notes of stone fruit and creamy butterscotch. With its marshmallowy body, it’s perfect for every brew method you can imagine—though the team at Martinborough are partial to a good old pour-over for that smooth, rich flavour!

Martinborough Coffee Company are here for coffee lovers who crave quality and love supporting local, and who know that the best things can happen over a good cup of coffee.

Tell us about your Bullrush experience by reaching out on Facebook or Instagram, and of course head to Martinborough to learn more about their coffee, and their home
