Seven Hills Roasters: Coffee That Feels Like Home

Seven Hills Roasters was established in 1997, originally known as Café Massimo. What began as a small community café in Takapuna was built on one simple belief:

Coffee is more than just a drink — it’s one of the most natural ways people connect.

From morning coffees before work to family gatherings, client meetings, and conversations between friends, Seven Hills has been part of everyday life in its coastal community for decades. That long history has shaped the way the team thinks about coffee today.

The team at Seven Hills believes coffee should bring people together, and over the years they’ve learned that truly good coffee doesn’t need to be complicated or intimidating. It should be consistent, approachable, comforting, and something people genuinely want to come back to every day.

Those core beliefs led to the development of Seven Hills Roasters, where the focus is on balance, consistency, and real everyday experience. Their coffee is roasted to fit naturally into homes, cafés, workplaces, and communities, rather than existing only as a specialty concept.

Roasting

Roasting takes place on a Yücel 15kg roaster — affectionately known in-house as “Turkish Beauty.” Their approach combines craft, experience, and sensory attention to create coffees that are balanced, approachable, and consistent.

Using carefully selected green beans, they roast in small batches in Auckland, with a focus on flavour clarity, sweetness, and everyday drinkability.

A journey from bean to cup

Coffee travels from different parts of the world into New Zealand, and every roaster gives those beans a different character, culture, and expression through the way they roast and serve them. What may seem like a simple cup of coffee is actually a long journey — from nature to craft, and from craft to human connection.

From the land where it was grown, through the hands of farmers and roasters, and finally into the conversations, relationships, and everyday moments shared over coffee.

To carry that experience beyond cafés and into everyday life, the team has also developed their drip bag coffee — making it easy to enjoy a familiar, well-balanced cup wherever you are.

Whether at home, at work, or travelling, it’s a simple way to bring coffee with you — no machine needed, just hot water. Because no matter where you go, a good cup of coffee should still feel like home.

That’s what we hope people feel in every cup we serve.

The blend

This month’s signature house blend features beans from Ethiopia, Brazil, Colombia, and Papua New Guinea. Medium roasted for balance and consistency, it provides a smooth body with a rich crema and is suitable for both black and milk-based coffee.

You can expect nutty and chocolate-forward notes, with a creamy mouthfeel and a clean, well-rounded finish.

The team recommends enjoying this blend as a black coffee to appreciate its balance and clarity, or as a flat white, where the chocolate and creamy notes come through beautifully.
