Welcome to May Coffee Crew: Brewing a New Coffee Story in New Zealand
There’s something special brewing in New Zealand, especially when it comes with a story as rich as the brew itself. May Coffee Crew is NZ's first specialty Vietnamese coffee brand. This Kiwi-Vietnamese family business began with a simple wish: to share the rich, diverse flavours of Vietnam’s coffee culture, and to build a warm, inclusive community around every cup.
Their name, “May”, means “cloud”, "Aotearoa" in Vietnamese, a nod to the high mountain altitudes where their coffee beans grow and to their son Jeremy, born in May. “Crew” reflects their vision of bringing people together, united by a love of great coffee and good company.
May Coffee Crew are delighted to be your coffee subscription partner, inviting you to explore the vibrant world of Vietnamese specialty coffee, now freshly roasted in Aotearoa.

How the Coffee Gets Here
May Coffee Crew’s journey from farm to cup is a tale of care and connection. They work directly with dedicated farmers in Vietnam, handpicking only the finest beans through direct trade. This means the farmers are paid above market rates, ensuring sustainable livelihoods for the growers and the highest quality coffee for you.
Once the beans are picked, they begin their voyage by sea to New Zealand. Here, in Auckland, the beans are roasted in small batches, ensuring every cup is as fresh and flavourful as possible. By managing the supply chain themselves, May Coffee Crew keep things simple and transparent, making sure more of the value goes directly back to the farming communities in Vietnam.

Why Vietnamese Coffee?
Vietnam is the world’s second-largest coffee producer, yet its beans - especially robusta - are often misunderstood or overlooked. May Coffee Crew are on a mission to change that. They want to shine a light on the true character of Vietnamese coffee and showcase robusta’s important role in the future of sustainable coffee. Their beans offer bold, smooth flavours that surprise and delight, whether you’re a fan of classic brews or eager to try something new.
This Month’s Coffee: Sunshine Arabica
This month, subscribers are treated to “Sunshine”, a beautifully smooth Arabica with low acidity and gentle, sweet notes - truly a ray of sunshine in your cup. But Sunshine is more than just delicious; it is a coffee with a purpose. Grown by the International Women’s Coffee Alliance cooperative in Son La, Vietnam, Sunshine supports women’s empowerment and better livelihoods in coffee-growing communities. Every cup is a celebration of quality, equality, and the bright future of Vietnamese coffee.
Whether you enjoy it black, with milk, or over ice, Sunshine is a gentle reminder to slow down and savour the moment; and perhaps to try brewing with a traditional Vietnamese Phin filter for a truly authentic experience.
Join the crew, and discover a new side of coffee - one that’s full of heart, heritage, and hope.
